The water heater! We can see how this system would be easy
to take for granted. It’s easy to just rely on the fact that we’ll always have
hot water coming from the taps whenever we need it in our homes.

But when you think about the amount of strain that your
water heater undergoes—after all it works 365 days a year—you can probably understand
that you can’t expect the system to work 100% free from problems forever. There
will come a point that you might need to have your water heater professionally
repaired. It helps to know what the warning signs are so you know when to give
our team a call! Read on to learn what they are.

A Decline in Hot Water Volume

Have you discovered that household members are complaining
about going with lukewarm showers in the morning? If this is a new problem and
there used to be plenty of hot water to go around, then your water heater is
likely losing heating power somehow. This is actually one of the most common
problems we get called for and almost always indicates a need for water heater
repair, sometimes even replacement.

Discolored Water

If you turn on a hot water tap and discover rusty brown discoloration,
then it can mean one of two things—there is too much sediment in the water and
your water heater needs to be flushed out, or your pipes are rusting. The
former can happen if you were gone on
vacation for a while and neglected to use your hot water taps for a couple of
weeks or so.

You Hear Rumbling Noises from the Tank

This noise can be alarming, but don’t worry, your water heater isn’t about to explode. However, this sound still isn’t something you want to hear from your system.

It can mean there was an increase in water pressure within
the tank, or there is sediment along the bottom of the tank. It could also be
the sign of a broken expansion tank, or it can be that cold and hot water are
mixing at the top of the water heater due to a broken dip tube.

The only way to know for sure, and to get it fixed, is to
give the pros a call!

Water Leaks

Pooling water is never a sight you want to discover near the base of your water heater. The only place you might ever see a normal presence of water is dripping from the pressure relief valve. If it’s coming from anywhere else, it’s a serious problem that needs to be repaired right away.

Corrosion

Your water heater tank is designed to resist corrosion. In fact, there is one component in particular that’s really important in this sense—the anode rod. It absorbs rust and corrosion that would otherwise attack the lining of the water heater tank.

What happens sometimes is homeowners don’t realize that this anode rod needs to be replaced on occasion, throughout the lifespan of their water heater. Otherwise, it will get overwhelmed, and the corrosion will start impacting the tank itself.

Contact <a href="/contact/send-a-message" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="DeHart Plumbing, Heating, and Air Inc.
