Is My Heating System Broken?

This might sound like quite the no-brainer to a lot of our customers. A broken heating system is obvious because it will just stop working altogether, right? Well, not exactly.

Sometimes a broken heater will continue to work but it won’t work properly. Other times, a broken heater will work correctly in a few ways but incorrectly in others. This can eventually lead to a breakdown, but by then it’s too late. Detecting when your system is malfunctioning is something that should be done early on, and if you’re in the business of limiting expenses, then you’ll want to read this blog.

We’re going to discuss why heater repair in Stockton, CA might not be as easy to detect as most people realize. Then we’ll discuss where your heating system fits into all of this. Hopefully by the end of this blog you’ll know what a malfunctioning heating system looks and sounds like.

How a Broken System Looks

A broken system looks different from a healthy unit, mainly in a few specific details.

First of all, a broken system might look older, worn down, and even covered in cobwebs or spiderwebs due to the fact that it hasn’t been maintained or fixed in a while. It could be hot to the touch due to malfunctioning components and it could even be leaking water due to a condensation problem.

Basically, if something doesn’t look right or doesn’t feel right about the image of your heating system, then it’s likely in need of repairs.

What a Broken System Sounds Like

Keep your ears peeled when you run your heating system. Does it rattle when it turns on? Does it sound like it’s struggling to create heat due to booming, grumbling, or clanking noises? These noises are almost universally bad and can be a good reason to call for professional repairs.

Don’t forget about your vents and ductwork! Your heating system shouldn’t be leaking air from the ducts and the blower fan shouldn’t be making a racket. If any of this sounds familiar, then make sure you have these issues fixed!

How It Feels to Have a Broken Heater

On one hand, it feels uncomfortable to have a broken heating system. Think about it, if your heating unit can’t adequately keep heat inside of your home and create more heat to get you comfortable, then it’s basically just a box that’s taking up space. The whole point of a heating system is to create or move heat, and if it can’t do that, then what’s the point? This doesn’t feel good, and one of the worse parts about a broken heater is the discomfort.

On the other hand, anxiety is a big part of why a broken heating system is so bad. We all know the feeling of having a malfunctioning appliance, like a heater, and knowing that it’s going to cost money to replace or fix. And you can’t just go without a heating system, especially when the weather can be so unpredictable. That anxiety can be devastating, so we urge our customers to consult with a professional for the best next step for your budget and comfort.
